This artwork consists of three elements, namely an anemometer (wind speed meter), a bank of fans, and a scaled-down set of fore-sails. It also has two versions depending on the weather outside the gallery space. Ideally it is an autonomous piece that reads the wind speed outside and translates this into the quantity of fans that are powered. If there isn’t enough wind however, the anemometer can be moved inside for the viewer to activate by using their lungs.
The fans are directed at the sails so that they are animated according to the anemometer stimulation. Thus, in the interactive iteration of this piece, the viewer literally breathes life into the sails.
